Syracuse University lacrosse defensive midfielder Kevin Drew rejoins team in time for camp.txt

Syracuse, NY -- Kevin Drew, a senior defensive midfielder on the Syracuse University lacrosse team, will be on the field Thursday when the Orange officially opens preseason camp with two practices sandwiched around its annual media day at the Manley Field House Arena.Drew, considered among the best players in the game at his position, was suspended indefinitely from the team in late October after he was charged by Syracuse police with driving while intoxicated, hit and run and resisting arrest.

&8220;Kevin has been out of school and has now been reinstated,&8221; coach John Desko said this afternoon. &8220;He has been punished and will continue to fulfill his consequences. It&8217;s great to have him back so he can continue his education and play lacrosse.&8221;

Drew has played in 45 games during his SU career and has been an integral part of a defense that has allowed no more than 7.4 goals per game over the last three seasons, the best defensive run in school history. Blessed with great speed and a hard right-handed shot, he has also sparked SUs transition game, scoring 13 goals in his career.

Drew will be a welcome addition to a group that lost seven of 10 starters to graduation following last season, the nucleus of a team that has shioned a 60-8 record over the last four seasons and has won two national championships. His return answers one question on a team that will enter the season with several others.

Four-year starter and two-time goaltender of the year John Galloway is gone. So is two-thirds of the starting close defense, including All-American John Lade. All-America longstick midfielder Joel White also graduated along with the team&8217;s entire first midfield and leading goal-scorer Stephen Keogh.

The return of Drew is good news. The latest on highly regarded midfielder and Corcoran High alum James Cathers is not.

&8220;To my knowledge he is not here,&8221; Desko said. &8220;He has yet to come see me and talk to me, so I don&8217;t know what his plan is for the future.&8221;

When Cathers barely iled to get a qualifying score to gain admission at SU in the ll of 2010 he opted to attend prep school briefly rather than go the junior-college route. The decision would have given him four years of eligibility at Syracuse, but so r he has not enrolled.

drew is an exceptional player but it will be a complete joke if he is allowed to play the kid could have killed someone. how is the ncaa going to suspend kids for trading equipment for tattoos (a victimless crime) but let a felony go unpunished the NCAA needs to reevaluate what should and should not be a punishable offense...the Syracuse program has a proud history but things like this have come up in the past (Dan Hardy) and nothing has been done. Drew took advantage of a flawed system by leaving school before he could be punished it looks bad for the program and the school when there are 40 other kids on the team who have done things the right way. if i were logan tousaw id be upset i wasnt allowed back on the team for my incident this past summer. I hate to say it but it feels like drew gets the exemption because of his prowess on the field and I hope that is not the case

I mean the kid takes the coaches sons car without permission(apparently) , is drunk, runs from cops, hits parked cars and doesnt miss a practice?

I mean it was real harsh punishment for him not to be allowed to attend a class DURING XMAS BREAK when there were no classes.

Also about deserving second chances, I am going out a limb and going to say his second chance started right after that nasty scar appeared on his ce because from what people say that wasnt an accident.

Let me guess, they will likely suspend him after the season as well. Just as long as the lax program doesnt suffer. the only consequences being taught is that sport comes above all else. What an example being set.

Rick Hill is the Valero Alamo Bowls VP of Marketing and Communications. Prior to the bowl, Rick spent 6 years working for the Spurs, one season with Missions Baseball and two fruitless months trying to sell season tickets for the S.A. Riders.

Im 0-2 on my last two days off. The first one was the Saturday before Thanksgiving. I knocked over a glass of water by my cell phone. I saved it from getting wet, but my charger was soaked.

So what did I do? I wiped up the spill and then proceeded to charge my iPhone 3 with a wet charger shorting out my three year old phone. Brilliant. I spent the next three hours of my off-day bouncing between the Apple and AT&T stores before breaking down and getting the new iPhone 4s.

Luckily, the next seven weeks provided plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the upgraded camera. ?In ct, the first three videos I captured with my new phone (Coach Sark walking into the hotelon team arrival,RG3 running onto the field for Baylors first practicein San Antonio andBaylor enjoying our Team Fiesta event) averaged over 850 views each.

Our unofficial mascot Flat Stanley made his debut at last years NCAA Regional hanging out withVCUs Shaka Smartbut came back out to hang with me and the two bowl teams.

By game day for the 2011 Valero Alamo Bowl I was still snapping pictures but the pace was clearly now a snowball rolling downhill.??I woke up at 5 :15 a.m. and captured a beautiful shot of a calm Alamodome from my hotel room. Morning meetings and walkthroughs of the game script flew by before we started organizing the press box, pregame parties and Fan Zone area.

Once the game started, the barrage of offensive records meant I spent all of my time running from the press box up a floor to the stats and broadcast booths. Post-game, our staff was compiling records until the last media member left the press box at 3:30 a.m. I drove them by golf cart all the way to the front door of the Marriott Riverwalk and then loaded everything onto dollies and back to our office.

Before leaving the stadium a full 24 hours after I arrived, I walked through the locker rooms and staged one last sleep deprived photo with my phone?after gathering all of team&8217;s left behind shirts, cletes, wristbands and uniforms.

The pace slows down but is still busy the week after the game so I didn&8217;t take a day off or mess with my phone&8217;s much heralded Siri feature until last Saturday. The 72 degree sunny weather enticed our?mily out for a day of horseback riding. The smiles turned to panic when my 7 year olds horse took off sprinting as I watched powerless. After 300 yards of a full gallop, the horse veered right and threw her off into a cactus.

No broken bones but head-to-toe scrapes with a hundred embedded cactus needles. The first command that I actually got Siri to answer correctly: Which way to the nearest childrens hospital.

After waiting for three hours in the emergency room, two doctors spent 90 straight minutes using glue, tape, tweezers and needles to rid her body of the cactus needles. My daughter&8217;s scgame walkthroughsreams??(Daddy, Daddy?why would you let them do this to me? I want to go home!) finally gave way to a smile leaving the hospital as the worst was over and she was ready to go to sleep.

And I was ready to go back to work.

Apple has released the latest iOS 4.2 beta version to developers. The third update to Apples forthcoming iOS update adds customizable tones for text messages while disabling theAirPlayfeature for some Apps--most notably YouTube.

The new text tones will come as a welcome addition to many users, especially in highiPhone-concentrated areas, who are frustrated with checking their phone every time one of the original text tones sound.
